The First Macau Art Graduates Joint Exhibition “Y Show” Striking Macau Chiu Yeng Culture invites world-famous designers to Macau to bring on the most outstanding design spectacle

(29th September 2016 – Macau) Organised by Chiu Yeng Culture Limited (“Chiu Yeng Culture”), co-organised by Chiii Design Ltd. (“Chiii Design”), the First Macau Art Graduates Joint Exhibition “Y Show” held its grand opening at the Regency Art Hotel on 29th September. The “Y Show”Opening Ceremony is strongly supported by Mr. Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau; Ms. Leong Lai, Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Ms. Wong Keng Chao, Secretary-General of the Committee of Cultural Industries; Ms. Angela Leong On Kei, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, together with representatives from local and overseas participants, to witness the kick-off of the exhibition. “Y Show” brings together artwork from different universities and institute in Macau, and offers an opportunity for young artists to show their talents and exchange ideas by inviting overseas design schools and associations to participate. At the same time, “Y Show” aims to foster the young cultural arts in Macau and establish Macau as the Young Art Capital – a centre for the new generation of arts and culture in Asia.

 

The “Y Show” Opening Ceremony was officiated by government officials and celebrities including Mr Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau; Ms. Leong Lai, Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Ms. Wong Keng Chao, Secretary-General of the Committee of Cultural Industries; Ms. Angela Leong On Kei, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, as well as “Y Show” Curators Ms. Sabrina Ho Chiu Yeng and Mr. Mann Lao. Honourable guests from local and overseas participants were also invited to the ceremony, including Ms. Chau Kwai Chee, Head of Student Development Section of the University of Macau; Mr. Lei Cheng Cheong, Programme Coordinator of School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute; Ms. Huang Guanghui, Program Director of Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology; Mr. Carlos Sena Caires, Coordinator for the Department of Design of University of Saint Joseph; and Mr. Brian Ho, Acting Director of Department of Art and Design of City University of Macau; Mr. Tony Lau, Committee Chairman of HKDA Global Design Awards 2016; Mr. Su Wen-Ching, Professor of the Design Department of National Taiwan Normal University; Mr. Yuan Youmin, Associate Professor of the Visual Communication Design Department of China Academy of Art; Mr. Jianping He, representative of Kuwasawa Design School; and Mr. Fons Matthias Hickmann, Professor from Berlin University of the Arts.
The First Macau Art Graduates Joint Exhibition “Y Show” will run from 29th September to 2nd October at the Regency Art Hotel; it not only presents a platform for fresh art graduates to showcase their skills and creativity, and learn from the young design specialties of different regions, but also provides an insight into the mind-sets of the worldwide young artists to enhance local citizens’ appreciation and awareness of arts, and to promote the local young cultural arts industry to a global level and bring more possibilities to the development of cultural arts in Macau. The exhibition has invited five local participating universities and institute: University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Macau University of Science and Technology, University of Saint Joseph, and City University of Macau; and several overseas participants: Hong Kong Designers Association, National Taiwan Normal University, China Academy of Art, Kuwasawa Design School, and Berlin University of the Arts. The exhibition includes five main design categories: Product Design, Visual Arts, Spatial and Architecture Design, Visual Communication Design, and Digital Media Design. By garnering works from local and overseas participants, “Y Show” aims to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between local higher education institutions and overseas design institutions, and acts as a medium through which the new generation of artists can interact.

 

To raise the academic standard of this local design event “Y Show”, Chiu Yeng Culture invited Mr. Katsumi Asaba, legendary designer from Japan;Mr. Jianping He, renowned graphic designer; Mr. Fons Hickmann, well-known German designer; Mr. Mann Lao, branding designer from Macau; and Ms Sabrina Ho Chiu Yeng, young entrepreneur to form an international assessment committee to select the top 10 outstanding artworks and award the students with the Outstanding Award, with the objective to applaud for their creativity and encourage them to join the design-related industry. The international assessment committee members are also invited to be “Y Show” seminar guest speakers to make “Y Show” the most striking design spectacle in Macau.

 

“Y Show” will hold six design seminars from 30th September to 2nd October. Aside from having the international assessment committee members as guest speakers, experts and remarkable designers from different sectors are also invited to share their creation stories, which will give an insight into the creative and design process in different fields for design enthusiasts. Large enterprises and designers of different sectors are invited to the exhibition to the “Y Show” for recruiting potential art graduates, which could provide a direct job opportunity for fresh art graduates.
Ms. Sabrina Ho Chiu Yeng, Managing Director of Chiu Yeng Culture and Curator of “Y Show”, commented, “I feel honoured to have government officials and celebrities, representatives from local and overseas participants, and local entrepreneurs here today to witness the kick-off of the most outstanding design event in Macau. I am glad to have organised another design spectacle for Macau since the first ‘6075 Macau Hotel Art Fair’and ‘Poly Macau Art Auction’ held in January earlier this year, and now fulfil the goal of having a joint exhibition for the design-related major of local higher institutions in Macau. This exhibition can also provide a direct job opportunity for fresh graduates by inviting representatives from large enterprises. In the near future, Chiu Yeng Culture will continue to offer more design and arts events for Macau to establish Macau as the Young Art Capital.”
