The Second “Y Show” Concluded Successfully
Strengthening Communication and Interaction between Macau and Overseas Art Graduates, Bringing a New Sight in Macau Design Industry

The second “Y Show”, organised by Chiu Yeng Culture Limited (“Chiu Yeng Culture”) and co-organised by Chiii Design Ltd. (“Chiii Design”), held the Award Ceremony at Regency Art Hotel on 16th July. The assessment committee formed by professional and well-known local and overseas designers has selected the top ten outstanding art works of the exhibition and present the Outstanding Award to spur the young creators for their creativity and encourage them to join the design industry. The winners of the Outstanding Award are (in no particular order): Morito Kozuma of Kuwasawa Design School; Luis Gabriel Lemos de Sales Marques of University of Saint Joseph; Ho Sze Yin Calvin of Federation of Hong Kong Industries & Design Council of Hong Kong; Wang Chenxu of Macau University of Science and Technology; Maiiko Leong of Macao Polytechnic Institute; Zhou Yue Ying of Macao Polytechnic Institute; Fancy, Yolanda of China Academy of Art; Sacnite Tang of Macau University of Science and Technology; Marie Scheffzük of Berlin University of the Arts; and Chen Shenghao of Macao Polytechnic Institute. The second “Y Show” continues to establish the Sponsorship Award, 9 sponsors each presented the Sponsorship Award to the best art work of their choice, giving recognition and support to the students.

The second “Y Show” continuously provided a cohesive platform for the design graduates, bringing together five local universities and institutes and six overseas exhibitors to present a total of 113 pieces of art works. The four-day exhibition attracted over 3,500 visitors.

To provide an effective platform for enterprises to explore the outstanding creative talents of Macau and to offer a direct employment opportunity for fresh graduates, the second “Y Show” gained support and participation from over a hundred of large enterprises, from local and neighbouring areas. With the guidance of professional designers, the enterprise representatives gained a better insight into the value of creative design, and to share ideas with graduates. At the same time, the second “Y Show” received support from several local schools and associations to raise the local students’ awareness of creative design, so as to cultivate the development of creative talents in the future.

I hope that the future ‘Y Show’ is not only a platform for graduates to show their art works, but also to build a deep connection between business and design industry. For this, we invited a group of professional designers to join our enterprise tour which aims to assist enterprises to have a deeper understanding on the design concepts of the graduates.”

In addition, the educational project of the second “Y Show” – “Y Class” Creative Design Courses are also rich and varied, with Visual Arts, Spatial and Architecture Design, Visual Communication Design and Multimedia Design as the main core topics. The closing ceremony of “Y Class” was held on 15th July at the University of Macau. The instructors from Asia and Macau gathered with more than 60 students and reviewed all the professional design knowledge and skills they have learned during the five-day course. Mr. Siza Cham, one of the local instructors, expressed, “I am honored to be one of the instructors of ‘Y Class’. I am glad to exchange ideas with the students who are also passionate about design. The introduction of overseas and Macau instructors in one course, broadens the horizons of students. I think that ‘Y Class’ can cultivate more non-gaming development, hence more citizens can commit to the creative industry in Macau.”

    Chiu Yeng Culture Limited (abbreviated: Chiu Yeng Culture) was founded by Ms. Sabrina Ho Chiu Yeng in Macau in October 2015, and has committed to become the most dynamic platform of arts and cultural exchange in Macau. Chiu Yeng Culture specialises with businesses encompassing auction, exhibitions and services in art and culture, and aims to explore the limitless possibilities of arts in order to motivate the development of local tourism, cultural and creative industries.

Konstantin Bessmertny was born in Blagoveshchensk, in the former USSR. Now based in Macau and Hong Kong, Bessmertny is one of the most distinguished artists working in Asia today. His technical mastery, achieved after seven years of studying fine art in the grand academies of the former Soviet Union, combined with his detailed knowledge on a wide range of subjects—including literature, music, history and politics—lend his work exceptional intelligence and credibility.

Bessmertny’s work has been the subject of solo museum exhibitions, including 365: A Work a Day, at the Museu do Oriente, Lisbon (2014); Tempos de Grande Ignorancia—Trabalhos de Konstantin Bessmertny, at the Macau Museum of Art (2012); and Konstantin Bessmertny: Recent Works at the Macau Museum of Art (2007). Bessmertny was a finalist for the 2006 Sovereign Asian Art Prize; he represented Macau at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007.

His works have been included in numerous public and private collections; notably, the Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou; Museum of Art, Macau; Standard Chartered Bank, Hong Kong; Mandarin Oriental, Macau; Fundação Oriente, Macau; BCM (Banco Comercial de Macau), Macau; Casino Lisboa (SJM Holding Limited), Macau; and Kee Club, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Born in 1979 in China. He is a designer, art director, the founder of Bob Chen Interior Design Office and Designer Furniture Brand Touch Feeling, and he is also one of the founders of Tunelife Conversation Rural Holiday Hotel. He established the Bob Chen Interior Design Office in 2004 and the Designer Furniture Brand Touch Feeling in 2010.

He is an award-winning designer, including the China Design Award of Year in 2016, the top designer list at 2015 Forbes China, the AD100 list of the China’s best interior designers and architects in 2013, 2015, 2016, etc.

After years of exploration in the field of design and art, he creates a new model of resources integration which is dedicated to the establishment of platform for the Chinese traditional aesthetics and modern design communication.

Henry Chu is a designer, programmer, and new media artist. He was born in Hong Kong in 1970s. Henry graduated from the Electrical and Computer Engineering programme at the University of Auckland and founded pill & pillow in 2004.

The independent studio has won more than 120 local and international awards including Cannes Lions, Webby and One Show, etc. His iPad music apps “Squiggle” were exhibited in MoMA New York. Henry was also a speaker at the Business of Design Week, TED x Kowloon and TED x Taipei.

Graduated from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010 and has worked for JOYN:VISCOM. Fang founded United Design Lab (UDL) with Ding Fan in 2012, and established UDL London in 2015.

UDL has served the visual identity for “Wuyong”, a brand of Ma Ke, the fashion designer. Their works also include Chinese New Year window display for Empire State Building in New York and Macy’s Chicago, project planning for Conoco Phillips in United States and book design for Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), etc.

The work UDL has been awarded globally including HKDA Global Design Awards, Maurus Fraser Award, in which has won 1 Silver and 2 Bronze (2014), the Best Awards and 3 Excellence Awards of the 8th National Exhibition of Book Design in China (2013), iF Design Award in Germany (2013), Red Dot Design Award in Germany (2012), and Nomination Award of Tokyo Type Directors Club (2011 – 2014),etc.

Born in 1973 in China. He is the founder and Chief Creative Officer of The Nine. He was previously a Group Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather, in Shanghai, and has worked around in different 4A agencies such as Leo Burnett Shanghai and DDB Shanghai. He has founded the “& Creative Lab” and creating numerous influential advertising and design campaigns for different brands, including McDonald, Yahoo, Virgin Airlines, IKEA, Coca Cola , Wechat and Alibaba,etc. His design of red pocket in 2017 has been subscripted and forwarded within different social networks.

In addition, He was invited to “Happy Camp”, one of the famous variety show in China to share his experience in designing the red pocket. He is one of few creative people who have lectured at TED, and his masterpieces have received over 300 impressive awards globally, including Gold Design Lions, Silver Design Lions, Bronze Film Lions and 18 Finalists at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, 2 Winners at Red Dot Design Award, Gold Andy Awards, London International Bronze Award, 5 Best of Best at GDC Graphic Design In China, 2 Grand Prixs China 4A, the Best of Best LongXi Awards, and 6 Gold Effie Award, etc.

He is also a judge for various advertising awards. He believes in meaningful creativity, design and art can make the world more beautiful.

The founder of Chiii Design Ltd., a new generation of branding designer in Macau. In his early stage of career, he worked in several advertising agencies like Grey Worldwide in Shanghai and Leo Burnett, involving in the production of numerous large-scale, international commercials. Afterwards, he was invited to work in other regions like Portugal on a variety of designs for commercial brands and cultural projects.

Returning to Macau in 2011, he has become a branding design lecturer at the Macao Polytechnic Institute. In 2012, he created Chiii Design with Nono Leong Chi Hang, focusing on brand image and cultural design.

Specialised in integrating commercial elements with arts and culture, Chiii Design provides consultancy services on branding and design with a particular focus in fields of brand image, packaging and advertising design. It is one of the few design teams that has presence in the markets of Hong Kong, Mainland China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and South East Asia at the same time.

The masterpieces of Chiii Design have won more than 200 awards in exhibitions of over 10 countries and regions, including the International Poster Biennial in Mexico; the Biennial of Poster Bolivia (BICeBe); the International Poster and Graphic Design Festival in Chaumont of France; Golden Bee – Moscow International Biennial of Graphic Design; the International Lahti Poster Triennial; the One Show in the United States; the China International Poster Biennial; the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial; Hong Kong Designers Association’s Global Design Competition; GDC – Graphic Design in China; and the Macau Design Biennial.

A young entrepreneur and holds a Bachelor of Art Degree from the University of Hong Kong. She is the Founder and the Managing Director of Chiu Yeng Culture, the Director and Chief Executive Officer of Poly Auction Macau Limited, and a member of the Committee of Cultural Industries of Government of Macao Special Administrative Region. She is also the Co-Vice Chairlady of Bellissima Italia and The Honorary Ambassador Korean Culture of Hong Kong and Macau of Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong. She actively organises various types of arts and cultural activities as to promote the development of Asian arts and culture, at the same time develop young artists from different sectors.

She believes that culture transcends generations and national borders and brings inspiration and hope. She is keen to promoting the integration of arts into daily life and look forward to further collaborations to contribute to the broader community to strengthen the foundation of urban culture, and promote arts and cultural development. She has a great influence in the Chinese art market and has been crowned as the 17th of the 2015 Top 100 Most Influential People of Chinese Art Market in the world, she has also been awarded the “Young Power” Leader from Shangliu Tatler. In April 2016, she has been invited to be one of the featured speakers at the 19th Annual Harvard China Forum and at the same month, she was named as one of the “Women to Watch” on the 2016 Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen List.

“Y Class”

“Y Class” is a series of creative design courses mutually conducted by Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Macau and Chiu Yeng Culture Limited, with the key creative support from Chiii Design. “Y Class” aims to form a team with high level of excellence by inviting design specialists from Asia and Macau to be the class instructors, and will enhance students’ critical thinking skills and knowledge about design through academic and practical teaching method. The five-day creative design courses – “Y Class” focus on five design categories: Product Design, Visual Arts, Spatial Design, Visual Communication Design and Multimedia Design. “Y Class” aims to promote the education of creative design and cultivate talents to enhance their overall design capabilities and to expedite the promotion of adequate economic diversification in developing the creative industry in Macau.
